→ What is Field Target, HFT and BR25?
Field Target (FT) is a precision shooting sport designed to simulate small game hunting using air rifles.
Participants aim at life-sized metal silhouettes shaped like animals such as rabbits, crows, and rats.
These targets are placed at varying distances, up to 50 meters, and feature a small circular "hit zone", typically 15 to 25 mm in diameter.
A successful hit is only counted when the pellet strikes the hit zone and causes the target to fall backward.
Equipment and Rules
Air rifles must comply with the European legal energy limit of 16 Joules (12 ft-lbs).
Scopes with adjustable magnification and parallax compensation are used to estimate the distance to each target.
Accuracy is key: hitting the figure alone isn’t enough—only a direct hit to the hit zone triggers the target to fall and scores a point.
Hunter Field Target (HFT)
HFT is a more restrictive variant of Field Target:
Shooters use scopes with fixed magnification.
Parallax settings may be adjusted before the competition begins but must remain unchanged during the event.
Scoring is straightforward:1 point for hitting the target anywhere 2 points for hitting the designated hit zone
BR25
BR25 is a precision shooting competition in the Benchrest discipline, where participants use air rifles to fire at paper targets placed 25 meters away.
The rifles must be of calibers up to 5.5 mm, and shooters aim to achieve the highest possible accuracy across multiple targets.
Each match typically consists of three target cards with 25 scoring zones, and final rankings are based on the aggregate score.
The competition includes individual and team categories, with strict regulations on equipment and scoring, and is governed by national and international Benchrest shooting federations.
